If anyone is wondering whether records have went the way of the dodo, they are in for a surprise. Vinyl is alive and kicking here in Singapore. Basically, there are shops in Adelphi that specialise in bringing in new records. We will talk about new lp shops in a later post. For this post, I would like to focus on 2nd hand records.
For us record lovers, nothing beats looking through vinyl and finding that holy grail that you have been coveting all this while. This is similar winning lottery as the adrenaline rush when you have the piece you have been longing and at a price of a song, the feeling is beyond description.
I have found pieces that cost less than $10,which would cost $80 in the secondary market. Monetary value aside, it is this rush that excites us vinyl junkies.
I have found many gems at a shop in Playfair road. The owner only sells records on Saturdays and Sundays. On other days, he is a carpenter by profession. Mr Ong has more than 20,000 lps at his shop and you can find gems (if luck is shining on you)
He has a blog which shows how to get to his place.

Another place to shop for great vinyl is at Adelphi. Mr Idris, has a lot of records in various genres and he stocks old turntables too! I understand Idris used to fly as he was a pilot before and now his passion is vinyl. Go check out Vinyl Lucky

For really the vinyl adventurer, the place to go would be Sungei Road or Old Thieves market. But be prepared to dig through some of the makeshift stalls and you might be rewarded!
